Young Adult Services Round Table (YASRT)

"Seeks to further and improve library service to adolescents and to stimulate interest in library materials for this age group; provides continuing education for librarians and media specialists who work with this age group, and provides opportunities for school and public librarians to come together to exchange ideas and gain stimulation for improving library service to young adults. Membership is open to members of the Association who work with young adults and who are interested in the improvement of service of this age group." -- Alabama Library Association Handbook, Chapter 15, Subsection 8, i.

Dues are $3 per year per round table.

MISSION
The Young Adult Services Round Table encourages and promotes the exchange of ideas and the study of new practices in the field of young adult services; provides continuing education for librarians and media specialists working with this age group, and provides opportunities for school and public librarians to come together for networking and discussion. 
GOALS
Goal 1: To enhance the profession of school media specialists and young adult services librarians within the state.
1.1              Encourage graduate education and/or continuing education within the library field
1.2              Promote professional activities of young adult librarians and media specialists by sending press releases/announcements to the regional and national press, and through professional listservs and the Communicator.
1.3              Provide opportunities for professional development through such vehicles as annual programs, sponsored workshops, and liaison with the American Library Association’s AASL, ASLC, and YALSA.
 
Goal 2: To increase awareness of and membership in the Round Table.
2.1       Network within schools and public libraries and establish a network of librarians and media specialists.
2.2       Develop membership forms and brochures for use in recruiting new members.
2.3       Keep a database of membership that is continually maintained and updated.
 
Goal 3: To provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas and information among public librarians and school media specialists.
3.1       Set regular meetings to provide face to face and virtual networking opportunities.
3.2       Set up and maintain social media sites to disseminate YASRT information and allow for the virtual exchange of information. 
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Young Adult Services Round Table is open to members of the Alabama Library Association. Individuals and institutions may apply for membership on the same form used to apply for (or renew) membership in the Association. Application forms are online and membership runs from January 1 through December 31 of each year. Members in good standing may vote in the general election for YASRT Moderator-elect.
