Legislative Development
The Legislative Development Committee coordinates the activities of the various divisions with regard to federal and state legislative activities and the collection and dissemination of information to the divisions, committees or individual members so that these segments of the Association can take appropriate action; recommends legislative policies and programs designed to promote the goals and objectives of the Association to the Council for approval and to membership for endorsement and support; seeks rulings and interpretations of laws and regulations affecting the welfare and development of all types of libraries; promotes a sound legal basis for the best development of all types of libraries in Alabama through coordinating the efforts of the legislative chairman of each division concerned with library legislation; keeps the Council and the membership fully informed of the committee’s activities and the status of legislation that is germane to the Association’s goals; and provides an informed representative to represent the Association in Washington each year at ALA’s National Legislative Day.
