Dear Colleague:

Librarians make things possible while doing the impossible. Libraries of all types, school, academic, special, and public provide access to information to education and education to everyone in their communities. Whether that community member is a third grade student, a faculty member, a law clerk, or a job seeker libraries provide the bridge from seeker to the knowledge needed. It is through the guidance of librarians that they access quality information.

We know that libraries, librarians, and paraprofessionals do amazing things everyday with limited resources. But we must always be on watch. What do we do that is good? What can we do better? What is a fad and what is best practice? That is part of our mission as your association. We are here to assist you in assessing information and expand your professional knowledge. We are here to assist you in becoming the best possible librarian or paraprofessional for your community.

I encourage you to be an active member in the Alabama Library Association. Join a roundtable or committee and share your voice. Together we can go beyond the bounds of expectations of the public, naysayers, and even ourselves. Help us plan and grow the future of Alabama libraries.
